Saudi Arabia shuts the East-West pipeline, its only route around Hormuz, after strikes on pump stations
The Ministry of Energy said Friday it shut the roughly 1,200 km East-West crude pipeline from the Abqaiq area to Yanbu as a precaution after multiple Thursday attacks in the Riyadh and Madinah regions injured several people, per The National and CNN. The line's pumping capacity is about 7 million b/d, per The National, and it is the kingdom's only large-volume path to tidewater that does not pass the Strait of Hormuz. Satellite imagery taken Friday appears to show extensive fire damage at one pumping station, per CNN.

Wisconsin's DNR issued a notice of noncompliance and told Enbridge to halt construction of the 1,500-foot Line 5 bypass in Iron County, finding the work began without required state approvals, while Enbridge kept building and says the line remains on track to restart September 12; the August 25 strike released about 1.3 million gallons of NGLs and other liquids, the largest reported oil and gas pipeline spill in state history, per WPR, the Wisconsin Examiner and The Daily Reporter.1
AnalysisRestarting over a standing noncompliance notice trades days of downtime for months of enforcement exposure and hands Michigan's Straits shutdown campaign its best evidence yet. Whether Wisconsin escalates from letters to an enforcement action on restart day is the tell.

Oman is working to convene GCC and Iranian foreign ministers Monday in Salalah, the first such gathering since the war began in February, with Iraq and other littoral states expected, per Bloomberg; Brent settled down 2.8 percent at $104.61 and WTI at $100.05 on the news, per CNBC, even as Gulf crude exports run 47 percent below pre-war levels near 9 million b/d, per Kpler data reported by Al Jazeera.2
AnalysisA multilateral table is the first mechanism that could reopen the strait at scale, and a 2.8 percent sell-off in a supply-loss week shows the market now prices process over inventory. The test is whether Salalah yields a transit framework with coordinates and escorts or only a communique.

TotalEnergies transferred operatorship of the $14 billion Papua LNG project to ExxonMobil and will sell 9.1 percent to partners, cutting its stake to 20 percent while keeping its LNG offtake, after roughly $4 billion of cost reductions since 2024 and completion of EPC tendering; ExxonMobil ends up at 34.1 percent with FID targeted in the fourth quarter, per World Oil and Oil & Gas Journal.3
AnalysisA supermajor handing over a $14 billion project it spent a decade developing is capital discipline over flag-planting: putting Papua LNG under the same operator as the neighboring PNG LNG trains concentrates execution risk in one machine and makes the Q4 FID materially more likely.
